I took the day off today and it’s nice to have a long weekend. In fact, I’m clearing my leave every Fri from this week onwards until mid Dec where I will be off on leave until end Dec. Nov to Dec is my wind-down period of the year where I get to rest & relax more while I prepare for the new year. Anyway, it’s not going to be a long post as I’m just making notes on some of my individual stock investments.
The share price of SPH has been going up recently because of the offers from bidders. This has been one of my worst-performing individual stocks throughout the years. I have been averaging down on SPH last year in Mar 2020 with the hope that there’s some form of turnaround that can allow me to exit this investment at a profit. I’m glad that the opportunity is finally here for me to do so and will wait for the best offer from a bidder to be taken up by SPH shareholders. It has been a long time coming as I could only collect the dividends and watch my SPH investment sink into losses over the past few years.
PayPal announced their 3Q2021 results and it missed the analysts estimates. The guidance for 4Q2021 is disappointing and the outlook is weak. The share price fell significantly and dropped below my last purchase price earlier in the year. I decided to average down since I still like the business and industry growth in this area. I did the same thing with Disney as well. Though there is more of a recovery play for the latter especially on their other businesses such as film studios and theme parks. I don’t have much cash lying around after setting up the weekly regular purchases of LINK, LUNA, DOT, SOL and MATIC on my Crypto.com account.
I’m draining my cash to a very low level by averaging down on PayPal and Disney. But I’m hoping it pays off in the long run. Our salary income coming in the next 2 weeks should help to replenish the cash holdings as I continue to invest when there are opportunities in the stock and crypto markets. Most of the big spending items in my household have been paid off as we come to the end of the year. I’m looking forward to rebuilding our cash to a healthier level with continued salary income. And the expected higher bonuses being paid to us in the next few months for our performance this year should help as well.
